Richard Kenneth Wengert, Sr., lifetime resident of Glen Burnie, passed away on August 27, 2014. Born in Baltimore to the late Adam and Emma (Metzkie) Wengert in July of 1922. Richard was a graduate of the Glen Burnie High School class of 1942 and was a Sergeant with the AA County Police Department until his retirement. Mr. Wengert was very involved in the community as he was the Past President of the GBIA, on the board of directors for the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Department, Charter member of FOP-Lodge 70, AA County Fireman's Hall of Fame, Chairman of The Big Glen Burnie Carnival where his family ran an ice cream stand to raise support funds for the community, and ushered at St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was an active member. He was also a member of several clubs such as, Elks, Moose and AARP 606. Richard enjoyed volunteering, spending time with his family, being an advocate for young people and the traveling to places like Alaska, Europe and the Islands. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" M. (Griffith) Wengert of Glen Burnie; son, Richard K. Wengert, Jr. of Severna Park; daughter, Deitra A. Wengert of Glen Burnie and sister, Pauline Utz of Annapolis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Adam "Bud" Wengert.
