Robert G. Andersen

June 22, 1935 — December 28, 2023

On December 28, 2023, Robert G. Andersen (Bob), 88, a long time Glen Burnie resident, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Bob was born on June 22, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to George Edmond and Mildred Josephine (Triner) Andersen. Bob graduated from Austin High School in Chicago and then eventually continued his studies at Anne Arundel Community College. Bob was proud to serve in the Air Force for 20 years retiring as a Master Sergeant. After military retirement, he worked for the Department of Defense in both civilian and contractor capacities until 2012. He married Bonnie Jean Hult in 1957 and they were married for 54 years.

He was a member of Glen Burnie United Methodist Church (GBUMC); MD Mobileers Amateur Radio Club; Job's Daughters (Glen Burnie #16); Master Mason (Glen Burnie Lodge #213); the Phoenix Society (Government Employees’ Benefit Association); past President of Glen Burnie Park Elementary School PTA and Toastmasters International.

Bob was always ready to volunteer. He volunteered at the Arts and Crafts shop at Fort Meade; he was a church bus driver; conductor at the Christmas train garden at Marley Station Mall; building maintenance team at GBUMC; support personnel for Cycle Across Maryland; Glen Burnie Carnival and assisted in transporting medical personnel during weather emergencies.

He loved woodworking, amatuer radios, golfing, boating, snow birding to Florida, reading, bird watching, tinkering/fixing things, playing games and doing puzzles, traveling, journaling, camping, photography, playing the accordian/organ, dancing, had a silly sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes. The North Dakota family farm had a special place in Bob’s heart as a child and as an adult.

Most of all, he loved his family. He will be missed by so many.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Jean Andersen.

He is survived by his children, Kathy Hart (Millard, Jr), Vickie Stephens (Mike), Cyndie Friese (Mark), Scott Andersen (Lorine) and Carole Clapsaddle (Charles). His grandchildren, Andrew Hart (Shawnyce), Joanna Hart, Wesley Friese, Michael and Steven Andersen, Melissa (Clapsaddle) Scichilone (Ricky), Matthew and Mitchell Clapsaddle and great-granddaughter O’Zyrah Hart. He also had twelve bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren through marriage (Stephens). He is also survived by three nieces and many cousins.
