Robert William Knopp, Sr., 87, lifelong resident of Severn died at home January 8, 2016. Born January 22, 1928, to the late William Frederick Knopp and the late Gladys (Mitchell) Knopp in Severn. In addition to being a lifelong farmer, Robert was also involved with several other organizations such as the Maryland Farm Bureau, Inspector for Maryland State Tobacco, Inspector and Commissioner for Anne Arundel County Liquor Board, Gambrills Turtle Club, Glen Burnie Elks Club and the Republican State Central Committee. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He loved hunting, fishing, crabbing, being a “snow bird” and traveling to Florida, was a big Orioles fan and was one of the founders of Bello Machre. He is preceded by his parents; his wife of over 60 years, Betty Lou (Polk) Knopp; sisters, Arlene Naegele and Joan Owens. Robert is survived by his children, Robert William Knopp, Jr. of Severn, Kevin Brian Knopp of Glen Burnie, Daniel Heath Knopp of Severn, E. Valerie Collins of Severn and Tammie Lee Winters of Harwood; sisters, Nancy Trossbach and Bonnie Lenoir; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandsons.
Friends and family may visit the KIRKLEY-RUDDICK FUNERAL HOME, PA., 421 Crain Hwy, S.E., Glen Burnie, MD 21061, on Tuesday, 3-9 pm. Funeral service Wednesday, 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Glen Haven Memorial Park, 709 Ritchie Hwy., Glen Burnie, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be in his memory to Bello Machre, 7765 Freetown Rd. Glen Burnie, Md 21060 and/or Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena MD 21122.
