Robert Hampton ("Bob") Simmons, Jr. of Glen Burnie, MD, passed away unexpectedly of Saturday, 3 September 2016 at the age of 64.
Born June 5, 1952 to Robert Hampton Simmons, Sr. and Barbara Hooper Simmons in Annapolis, MD he grew up in Md, Fl and, NC before returning to Maryland at 12, where he remained a resident of Anne Arundel County for the rest of his life Severna Park Senior High in 1970.
In 1977, he began his long-lasting career with Anne Arundel County Government, where he served in facilities management, eventually as a crew leader. At the time of his death, he was working at the County's Millersville, MD location.
He is survived by four sons, Bobby Simmons Binko (nee Robert Hampton Simmons III) of Stewartstown, PA; Jacob Heath Smith of Laurel, MD; Luke Brandon Simmons and Dominic Stephan ("Nick") Simmons of the home; a son-in-law, Michael Patrick Binko; three grandsons, Brandon Lee Simmons (10); Joshua Kayson Binko (6), and Patrick Aaron Binko (3); two brothers, William John ("Bill") Simmons of Pasadena, MD and Brian Todd Simmons of Greencastle, PA; an aunt, Betty Jane (Hooper) Jacoby of Marengo, IL; and many cousins. He was also a second father to Christopher, Casey, and Corey Parce.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Celeste Teresa Kenny.
Bob was a hunting and gun enthusiast. He enjoyed being in the outdoors. In the early 1980s, he took part in Civil War re-enactments. He enjoyed American-fare diners and visiting gun and knife shows and gun shops around the mid-Atlantic with family. While he did not regularly attend a church, Bob was a Protestant Christian.
He was known for his kindnesses for and helpfulness to family; friends; his employers, the citizens of Anne Arundel County; and strangers too.
Friends of the family may call at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home (421 S Crain Hwy, Glen Burnie, Md), Friday, September 9, 2016 3-5 pm & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 10am at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home with burial service to immediately follow at Glen Haven Memorial Park, Ritchie Hwy, Glen Burnie.
