IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roger Eugene
Franz
March 19, 1963 – January 10, 2026
Suddenly, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, Roger Eugene Franz, 62, resident of Severn, died unexpectedly in his home with his wife by his side. Roger was the only boy and the baby of his family who was born on Tuesday, March 19, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Eugene Leroy and Mary Catherine (Casale) Franz. He graduated from Patapsco High School in 1981, and proudly joined the US Air Force, just like his father, in 1983. He was proud that he served his Country and was very patriotic. He was employed as a truck driver with R.E. Michel Company for 38 years. When he wasn't behind the wheel, you could find him out in his organic garden. He loved growing potatoes, lima beans, pumpkins, cucumbers and THE BEST tomatoes that you would ever eat! He and Sandy enjoyed the harvest and giving his delicious vegetables to others as much as tending to the growing. He enjoyed crabbing on his boat in his younger years, and then later buying and steaming them himself, less work but still so good. He enjoyed the tradition of Friday night dinners with his in-laws. He also carried on the OC vacation tradition from childhood to adulthood. He and Sandy loved going to the OC Car Show for their anniversary and the OC Air Show for many years, making memories along the way. He enjoyed sports, especially the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, and tailgating/going to Penn State Football games with his cousins throughout the years. Roger was FUN, kind, generous, entertaining, full of life, and was a great story teller. Besides having a thumb for gardening, he loved taking care of his home and all of his vehicles, especially his trucks. Roger loved life, enjoyed being around those that he loved, and will be missed by everyone that had known him.
Roger is preceded by his parents, Eugene Leroy Franz and Mary Catherine (Casale) Franz. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sandra Dawn (Cowsill) Franz of Severn; his two sisters, Denise Marie Hershel (Richard) of Parkville and Rhonda Jean Franz (Herb Floyd) of Trappe; his niece Heather Spilker; his nephew, Matthew Hershel (Nicole) and his great nephews and niece, Vinny Spilker, Mia Spilker, and Kobe Hershel; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law William Cowsill and Elaine Cowsill.
Family and friends may visit at the KIRKLEY RUDDICK FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, 2-4pm & 6-8pm. Funeral service, 11am, Friday, at the funeral home. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park.
