Ruby L. Ward, née Ruby L. Frankheart, was born on August 18, 1930, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late John B. and Louise Virginia (Stallings) Frankheart. At the tender age of ten, she relocated to Glen Burnie, Maryland, where she would make her lifelong home. A proud graduate of Glen Burnie High School in 1948, Ruby furthered her education at secretarial school before embarking on a brief career as an executive secretary in the insurance industry. Ultimately, she devoted herself to being a dedicated homemaker.
Ruby’s life was deeply enriched by her active involvement in the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church, where she passionately contributed to programs centered around the children of the congregation. An ardent sports enthusiast, she also found joy in reading, gardening, sewing, and traveling, pursuits that reflected her multifaceted interests and warm spirit.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Weldon W. Ward, Jr., her son Frank W. Ward, and a cherished grandchild, Melissa Listman-Ward. Ruby’s legacy is lovingly carried forward by her son, John W. Ward, and his wife, Dawn, of Glen Burnie. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jessica Leverage, Brittany Listman-Ward, Paul Listman-Ward, Jennifer Galvin, and Justin Ward, as well as her great-grandchildren Hudson Ruby Ward, Van Weldon Galvin, Maverick James Leverage, Jordan Mary Ward, and Donovan Joseph Doyle, with another precious great-grandchild on the way.
Services to honor Ruby’s life will be held at the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church, located at 5 Second Avenue SE, Glen Burnie, on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. She will be entombed at Glen Haven Memorial Park. The family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Mrs. Ward’s memory, a tribute that will be sincerely appreciated and cherished.
Ruby L. Ward’s life was a testament to love, faith, and devotion, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
