Sheila Marie Brooks, a cherished resident of Anne Arundel County for over four decades, passed away leaving behind a lasting legacy of dedication, creativity, and devotion to family and community. Born on December 16, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late George H. Brooks and Jeanne Brooks (née Hicks), Sheila’s life was marked by a profound commitment to the arts and education.
A proud graduate of Loch Raven High School, Sheila furthered her academic pursuits with a bachelor’s degree from Towson State University and a master’s degree from Bowie State University. Her passion for art found expression both in her personal life and professional career, as she devoted many years to inspiring young minds as an art teacher within the Anne Arundel County Public School System. Most notably, she nurtured creativity and confidence in her students at Arundel High School until her retirement.
Sheila’s love for the arts extended beyond the classroom; she was an avid supporter of the Baltimore Museum of Art and found joy in music and creative expression throughout her life. She delighted in simple pleasures such as spending tranquil moments by the beach and, in earlier days, the exhilaration of skiing. A devoted fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Sheila also treasured the companionship of her beloved dogs, Aiden and Oscar.
Above all, Sheila held her family and friendships close to her heart. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Nay Maung of Severn; her brother, Hank Brooks of Gloucester, Virginia; her sisters, Sarah Dougherty of Berlin, Maryland, and Rebecca J. Brooks of Great Falls, Virginia; as well as a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness.
Sheila Marie Brooks’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of creativity, dedication, and love. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
