Shirley L Stinchcomb

Shirley L. Stinchcomb, 90, formerly of Millersville and Harwood, MD passed away peacefully July 24th, 2018 in the presence of family and friends at Country Acres Assisted Living, Westminster, MD, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.  Born in Severn, MD December 5, 1927 to the late Raymond S.  and Lonetta O. (Upton) Stinchcomb, she learned early the importance of family and selflessness.  A member of the Severn United Methodist Church, she was married there to the late Earl C. Stinchcomb on June 29, 1946. She was also a member of American Legion Post 276 Women’s Auxiliary, Severn MD. A loyal Orioles fan she regularly attended games and cheered for the O’s on TV. She also looked forward to regular camping trips with her family from Virginia to the Rocky Mountains.

A devoted wife, mother and daughter, Shirley was a homemaker who always found a way to help others. She volunteered in her children’s elementary school library in a time when there was no staffing for the library. Family members who would need transportation to appointments or grocery store called on her for rides to and from.  She found time to support her children in every endeavor and was a super Mom.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, brother Kenneth R. Stinchcomb and the love of her life, her husband, Earl C. Stinchcomb. She is survived by her brother Stanley (Jane) Stinchcomb, her children Earl R. (Penny) Stinchcomb and Cynthia L. (Craig) Sumners, five grandchildren, Earl W. (Kelley) Stinchcomb, Erin S. (Darrin) Ware, Austin L. (Lindsay) Sumners, Lucas E. Sumners and his long time friend Deanna Reid, James C. Dennis , seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home, 421 Crain Highway, S.E.; Glen Burnie MD 21061 on Monday July 30 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral will be held 11:00 am July 31, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue Westminster, MD 21157.
