Thomas "Tom" Shields was born June 2, 1940 in Washington, D.C. to the late Russell and Virginia Shields (nee O'Leary). He has been a resident of Glen Burnie for the past 50 years. During his working life Tom worked as a forklift operator at the GM Assembly Plant in Baltimore and was a longtime member of UAW Local 239. He enjoyed playing blackjack and video poker, as well as listening to the oldies and selling his old records and CD's on E-Bay. All that knew him knew of his stories, whether they be about him growing up, his years of gambling, his years at GM, life lessons, or about ebay, we all heard them, maybe once or a thousand times but we all listened to them each time he wanted to tell them. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Mary Onorato. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Midge Shields (nee Pope) and his children Tony Shields and wife Chris, Debbie Shields Buttrum and husband Butch, and Ann Shields of Glen Burnie and Danny Shields and wife Lezlie of Arlington, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren Raymond and Matthew Shields, Breanna Winchester, Sherri Buttrum, Braedyn Patterson, Bailey Brown and Keghan McGee and great-grandchild Laylah Edwards. He passed away at his home surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
