On November 6, 2009, Vernon Preston Diehl of Augsburg Retirement Village in Baltimore passed away from natural causes. He was 91. Devoted husband of 58 years to Margaret Louise Stein Diehl of Baltimore; Beloved father of Evelyn L. Diehl Frey of Iowa City, IA, Virginia A. Diehl of Macomb, IL and the late Nevin Diehl; Caring brother of Elwood Diehl of Felton, PA and Dorothy Cox of Cardiff, MD; Cherished grandfather of three: Alison M. Frey of St. Paul, MN, Mason A. Frey of Iowa City, IA and Owen M. Frey of Iowa City, IA. Born on November 30, 1917, Vernon grew up in Felton, Pennsylvania. He later went to Chicago, Illinois to study at DeVry University. Vernon lived in Harmons, Maryland for 52 years before moving to the Augsburg Retirement Village six years ago. Vernon proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army - Occupation of Japan. He later worked as an Electronic Technician for Westinghouse until he retired after 25 years of service. Vernon was an active member of The Men’s Group for St. Johns Lutheran Church in Linthicum and also volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels for twenty years. He also volunteered for the Anne Arundel County Fair. John enjoyed gardening, woodworking, sing-alongs and family picnics.
