Virginia Mildred Dooley (née Hoey) affectionately known as Gin Gin, 92, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Born on July 10, 1932, in Paramus, NJ, Virginia grew up with a strong sense of family and faith. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, VA, where she laid the foundation for a life of dedication and perseverance.
Virginia called several places home while raising her family. She lived in Washington, DC; Bethesda, MD; and most recently Sherwood Forest, MD.
Virginia built a successful career in real estate, beginning at Jack Foley Realty in Bethesda as a realtor before advancing to assistant manager. She later joined Long & Foster in Crofton, where she served as branch administrator until her unplanned retirement due to the pandemic in 2020. Her professionalism and commitment to her work left a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike.
A devoted Catholic, Virginia instilled the values of faith and love in her children and grandchildren. Her unwavering devotion to her beliefs was a guiding force throughout her life.
Beyond her professional and spiritual commitments, Virginia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She cherished family vacations, creating lasting memories with loved ones. She also enjoyed bowling, sewing, dancing, reading, shopping, playing cards, completing puzzles, and collecting black cat items. Her love for chocolate was well known among those close to her.
Virginia had a deep appreciation for the arts and enjoyed watching musical theatre. She also found great joy in supporting her grandchildren by attending their sporting events. Known for her impeccable sense of fashion, she always ensured her accessories perfectly complemented her outfits.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Dooley; her parents, Arthur Hoey Jr. and Dorothy Hoey; and other dear family members who went before her. She is survived by her siblings Diana Barden and Beth Von Kauffmann; her loving children Christopher Dooley, Shawn Dooley, Robert Dooley Jr., Dierdre Dwyer, and Darren Dooley; daughters-in-law Susan Dooley, Deborah Dooley, and Katherine Dooley; sons-in-law Charles Dwyer and Kory Carroll; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy.
Family is invited to pay their respects at a viewing on February 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Friends and guests are welcome from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home, located at 421 Crain Highway SE, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. A funeral service will be held on February 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 801 Stevenson Road, Severn, MD 21144. A reception will follow at the church.
Virginia’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her. May her legacy bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in her life.
