William Earl Merrill, 86, passed away on 28 May 2021. William “Bill” was born in Northfield, NH on 26 April 1935 to the late Charles and Mary Merrill. Bill honorably served in the United States Marines for three years and retired from the United States Air Force after honorably serving 20 years. He then worked at Raytheon, packaging material for NASA, and retired from there. Bill enjoyed serving his community. He was an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 160 and Military Order of the Cooties (MOC) Pup Tent #3, Marine Corps League and a former member of American Legion Posts 276 and 95. He enjoyed music, reading, swimming, coaching kids, RV camping, traveling, going to conventions for the VFW and MOC, working functions at the VFW and delivering Christmas Baskets, playing Santa Claus for the VFW Children’s Party for over 20 years, and spending time with his family at various family celebrations.
He was beloved husband of Patricia Merrill; loving father of William Merrill, Jr. (wife Debbie), Robert Merrill (wife Cindy), Cynthia (Merrill) Carter (husband Alan), and Richard ‘Todd’ Merrill (wife Maria); devoted grandfather/great grandfather of Allyson Carter, Stephanie (Carter) Hinkley, Jack and Grace Hinkley; Bailey and Maggie Merrill; Kyle Merrill; Samantha, Robert, and Danielle Merrill and Kairi Harry. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by Mildred Merrill (wife) and Charles Merrill (brother). Surviving siblings are Dorothy (Merrill) Ackerman, Richard Merrill, and Phyllis Colcord. Bill will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Family and friends may visit on Friday, 4 June, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home, PA, 421 Crain Hwy SE, Glen Burnie, MD. Funeral Services will be held on June 7, 2021 and interment at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
