William Everett Willis, Jr., 89, a resident of Linthicum Heights for over 60 years, died peacefully August 8. Born September 27, 1924 to the late William and Alice (Ledley) Willis in Baltimore, Md. William enlisted in the US Naval Service in 1943 and was honorably discharged. After the military, William completed his education and worked for NASA as an Electronic Chief Engineer. He was involved with the Tracking Stations of the Apollo and Mercury Missions, he was "a pioneer before his time." He was a Master Mason with Glen Burnie Lodge #213 and Boumi Temple. William loved working with wood; carving, sanding and building, while the Mrs. painted. Together they attended the Spring St. Philip Neri Craft Show, selling their projects; especially the Santa Clauses and Rocking Horses. He also loved talking about his travels around the world through his employment. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ida Carrie (Naumann) Willis of Linthicum Heights; son, Glenn William Willis of North Carolina and grandson, Ryan Hewes. He is preceded by his son, Robert Henry Willis; daughter, Deborah Carol Hewes; brothers, Alvin and Edward Willis.
